The National Debt is Skyrocketing - Let's Turn it Around

Simply put, we need much more than just a balanced budget. We have to repay an extreme amount of debt that has already been accrued, and we must stave off new debt from accumulating in the coming years and decades. The best short-term solution is for Congress to stop voting to increase the debt ceiling. If we have Senators and Representatives who will stand up to the bewildering amounts of spending and hold their ground, the budget would have to balance itself. We should be pursuing a long-term solution for constraining debt, and I support a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Where do we cut spending?  As they say in the military, this is a target-rich environment.  We start with cutting spending at the top with the costs of the legislative branch and the executive branch.  As leaders in the government, we must set an example of frugality.  I can assure you my Senate office will be the least expensive by far compared to all my 99 colleagues.  Then we will go to every department and agency, and we will certainly be able to find 20% of wasteful spending - if not even more.
