Senatorial candidate Bender speaks with local Boy Scouts.

New Hampshire senatorial candidate Jim Bender (Hollis, NH), met with a group of local Boy Scouts Tuesday May 11^th to answer very adult and timely questions.  The boy scouts, all working on the “Citizenship in the Nation” merit badge, one of several required to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, had the unique opportunity to pose serious questions to Mr. Bender at the local library.

Questions ranged from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, health care reform costs and benefits to Americans, closing the borders, Bio fuels, paying for college, and a host of other surprisingly adult questions.  Mr. Bender pulled no punches as all 17 scouts in attendance asked their questions in turn nor did he gloss over the more difficult concerns.

For nearly an hour Mr. Bender explained, often in significant detail, how various problems have grown to titanic proportions and why they must be dealt with sooner rather than later.  Bender’s answers were non-political and addressed the issues head on with out raising the stigma of being on a Republican or Democratic platform.

Boy Scout Troop 12 of Hollis extends their thanks to Mr. Bender for taking time from his very busy schedule and sharing his thoughts with the scouts.

As the merit badge counselor for the group, I would also like to express my thanks and gratitude to the Hollis Social Library for allowing the scouts to meet in an open portion of the library, and to the 7^th through 9^th grade history, economics, and other teachers, and parents who help shape and nurture the minds of our community’s young adults.
